A Little Bit About Me
My name is Ollie! I was raised on a farm outside of Lebanon, Oregon. I went to West Albany High School, where I participated in music, theatre, swim team, while developing an interest in science and medicine. I graduated in 2020 and took a year of prerequisite classes from Linn-Benton Community College before transferring to Oregon Tech after being accepted into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program there. I then moved to Klamath Falls and took two years of programmatic courses before being selected for an externship site in my hometown, where I now work at the hospital where I was born at.
Why I Chose Oregon Tech and My Major
I chose my major after becoming fascinated with medical imaging and deciding that sonography seemed like a good fit for me as a high schooler and after hearing many good things about Oregon Tech and its medical imaging programs. I specifically heard a presentation from an Oregon Tech DMS alumni while in high school, and her description of the school and the career stuck with me as I was making plans for my future.
My Influential Professors
The DMS program as a whole is run by only two very capable professors, Bobbi Kowash and Robyn Cole. They have both gone above and beyond to teach, mentor and support every student in the program. They are both incredible sonographers and amazing instructors as well.
My Greatest Learning Experience At Oregon Tech
My greatest learning experience at Oregon Tech had more to do with moving 200 miles away from my family, living on my own for the first time, and working a part-time job while taking classes, than with anything I had to face academically. I feel that I grew a lot as a person, student, and sonographer during my time there.
My Plans After Graduation
My plan after graduation is to hopefully remain in the area and continue to work in the hospital environment, gaining more experience with all different kinds of patients and exams as I take my board exams and obtain my license to fulfill ARDMS and OBMI requirements. Then, I will be better equipped to explore different options in my career and make the most of the opportunities I've been given.
